Ziyarat al-Arba‘in

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى وَلِيِّ اللّٰهِ وَحَبِيْبِهٖ

Peace be upon the friend of God and His beloved.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى خَلِيْلِ اللّٰهِ وَنَجِيْبِهٖ

Peace be upon the intimate of God and His chosen one.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى صَفِيِّ اللّٰهِ وَابْنِ صَفِيِّهٖ

Peace be upon the pure one of God, son of His pure one.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَى الْحُسَيْنِ الْمَظْلُوْمِ الشَّهِيْدِ

Peace be upon al-Husayn, the wronged, the martyr.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلٰى اَسِيْرِ الْكُرُبَاتِ وَقَتِيْلِ الْعَبَرَاتِ

Peace be upon the captive of hardships, the one slain amid tears.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّيْٓ اَشْهَدُ اَنَّهٗ وَلِيُّكَ وَابْنُ وَلِيِّكَ

O God, I bear witness that he is Your friend and the son of Your friend,

وَصَفِيُّكَ وَابْنُ صَفِيِّكَ الْفَآئِزُ بِكَرَامَتِكَ

Your pure one and the son of Your pure one, who attained Your honour.

اَكْرَمْتَهٗ بِالشَّهَادَةِ وَحَبَوْتَهٗ بِالسَّعَادَةِ

You honoured him with martyrdom and granted him felicity,

وَاجْتَبَيْتَهٗ بِطِيْبِ الْوِلاَدَةِ وَجَعَلْتَهٗ سَيِّدًا مِّنَ السَّادَةِ

chose him through a pure birth and made him a master among masters,

وَقَآئِدًا مِّنَ الْقَادَةِ وَذَائِدًا مِّنَ الذَّادَةِ

a leader among leaders and a defender among defenders.

وَاَعْطَيْتَهٗ مَوَارِيْثَ الْاَنْبِيْآءِ وَجَعَلْتَهٗ حُجَّةً عَلٰى خَلْقِكَ مِنَ الْاَوْصِيَآءِ

You gave him the inheritance of the prophets and made him, of the successors, a proof over Your creation.

فَاَعْذَرَ فِيْ الدُّعَآءِ وَمَنَحَ النُّصْحَ وَبَذَلَ مُهْجَتَهٗ فِيْكَ

He left no excuse in his summons, gave sincere counsel and gave up his life for You,

لِيَسْتَنْقِذَ عِبَادَكَ مِنَ الْجَهَالَةِ وَحَيْرَةِ الضَّلَالَةِ

to rescue Your servants from ignorance and the bewilderment of error,

وَقَدْ تَوَازَرَ عَلَيْهِ مَنْ غَرَّتْهُ الدُّنْيَا

while against him there banded together those whom the world had deceived,

وَبَاعَ حَظَّهٗ بِالْاَرْذَلِ الْاَدْنٰى

who sold their share for the lowest and meanest,

وَشَرٰى اٰخِرَتَهٗ بِالثَّمَنِ الْاَوْكَسِ وَتَغْطَرَسَ

bartered their hereafter for the cheapest price, grew arrogant

وَتَرَدّٰى فِيْ هَوَاهُ وَاَسْخَطَكَ وَاَسْخَطَ نَبِيَّكَ

and fell headlong into their desires; they angered You and angered Your Prophet,

وَاَطَاعَ مِنْ عِبَادِكَ اَهْلَ الشِّقَاقِ وَالنِّفَاقِ

and obeyed, of Your servants, the people of discord and hypocrisy,

وَحَمَلَةَ الْاَوْزَارِ الْمُسْتَوْجِبِيْنَ النَّارَ فَجَاهَدَهُمْ فِيْكَ

the bearers of burdens who deserve the Fire. So he strove against them for You,

صَابِرًا مُّحْتَسِبًا حَتّٰى سُفِكَ فِيْ طَاعَتِكَ دَمُهٗ

patient and seeking Your reward, until his blood was shed in obedience to You

وَاسْتُبِيْحَ حَرِيْمُهٗ

and his sanctity was violated.

اَللّٰهُمَّ فَالْعَنْهُمْ لَعْنًا وَبِيْلًا وَّعَذِّبْهُمْ عَذَابًا اَلِيْمًا

O God, curse them with a heavy curse and punish them with a painful punishment.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ

Peace be upon you, O son of the Messenger of God.

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ سَيِّدِ الْاَوْصِيَآءِ

Peace be upon you, O son of the master of the successors.

اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ اَمِيْنُ اللّٰهِ وَابْنُ اَمِيْنِهٖ

I bear witness that you are the trustee of God and the son of His trustee.

عِشْتَ سَعِيْدًا وَمَضَيْتَ حَمِيْدًا

You lived happy and passed away praised,

وَمُتَّ فَقِيْدًا مَظْلُوْمًا شَهِيْدًا

and died lost to us, wronged, a martyr.

وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ مُنْجِزٌ مَّا وَعَدَكَ وَمُهْلِكٌ مَّنْ خَذَلَكَ

I bear witness that God will fulfil what He promised you, destroy whoever forsook you

وَمُعَذِّبٌ مَّنْ قَتَلَكَ وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ وَفَيْتَ بِعَهْدِ اللّٰهِ

and punish whoever killed you; and I bear witness that you kept the covenant of God

وَجَاهَدْتَ فِيْ سَبِيْلِهٖ حَتّٰى اَتَاكَ الْيَقِيْنُ

and strove in His way until certainty came to you.

فَلَعَنَ اللّٰهُ مَنْ قَتَلَكَ وَلَعَنَ اللّٰهُ مَنْ ظَلَمَكَ

So may God curse whoever killed you, may God curse whoever wronged you,

وَلَعَنَ اللّٰهُ اُمَّةً سَمِعَتْ بِذٰلِكَ فَرَضِيَتْ بِهٖ

and may God curse a people who heard of this and were pleased with it.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّيْ اُشْهِدُكَ اَنِّيْ وَلِيٌّ لِّمَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَدُوٌّ لِّمَنْ عَادَاهُ

O God, I call You to witness that I am a friend to whoever befriends him and an enemy to whoever opposes him.

بِاَبِيْ اَنْتَ وَاُمِّيْ يَابْنَ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ

May my father and mother be ransomed for you, O son of the Messenger of God.

اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ كُنْتَ نُوْرًا فِيْ الْاَصْلَابِ الشَّامِخَةِ

I bear witness that you were a light in exalted loins

وَالْاَرْحَامِ الْمُطَهَّرَةِ

and purified wombs;

لَمْ تُنَجِّسْكَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةُ بِاَنْجَاسِهَا

the Ignorance did not defile you with its impurities

وَلَمْ تُلْبِسْكَ الْمُدْلَهِمَّاتُ مِنْ ثِيَابِهَا

nor clothe you with its dark garments.

وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ مِنْ دَعَآئِمِ الدِّيْنِ وَاَرْكَانِ الْمُسْلِمِيْنَ

I bear witness that you are of the pillars of the religion and the supports of the Muslims,

وَمَعْقِلِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ الْاِمَامُ الْبَرُّ التَّقِيُّ الرَّضِيُّ الزَّكِيُّ

and the refuge of the believers; I bear witness that you are the Imam — righteous, God-fearing, well-pleasing, pure,

الْهَادِيْ الْمَهْدِيُّ وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّ الْاَئِمَّةَ مِنْ وُلْدِكَ

guiding and rightly guided; and I bear witness that the Imams from your descendants

كَلِمَةُ التَّقْوٰى وَاَعْلاَمُ الْهُدٰى وَالْعُرْوَةُ الْوُثْقٰى

are the word of piety, the signposts of guidance and the firmest handhold,

وَالْحُجَّةُ عَلٰى اَهْلِ الدُّنْيَا وَاَشْهَدُ اَنِّيْ بِكُمْ مُؤْمِنٌ

and the proof over the people of this world. I bear witness that I believe in you

وَّبِاِيَابِكُمْ مُوْقِنٌۢ بِشَرَايِعِ دِيْنِيْ وَخَوَاتِيْمِ عَمَلِيْ

and am certain of your return, by the laws of my religion and the seals of my deeds;

وَقَلْبِيْ لِقَلْبِكُمْ سِلْمٌ وَّاَمْرِيْ لِأَمْرِكُمْ مُتَّبِعٌ

my heart is at peace with your hearts, my affairs follow your command,

وَّنُصْرَتِيْ لَكُمْ مُعَدَّةٌ

and my help is ready for you

حَتّٰى يَاْذَنَ اللّٰهُ لَكُمْ

until God permits you.

فَمَعَكُمْ مَعَكُمْ لاَ مَعَ عَدُوِّكُمْ صَلَوَاتُ اللّٰهِ عَلَيْكُمْ

So I am with you, with you, not with your enemy. The blessings of God be upon you,

وَعَلٰى اَرْوَاحِكُمْ وَاَجْسَادِكُمْ وَشَاهِدِكُمْ وَغَآئِبِكُمْ

upon your souls and your bodies, upon the present among you and the absent,

وَظَاهِرِكُمْ وَبَاطِنِكُمْ اٰمِيْنَ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ

the outward and the inward. Amen, O Lord of the worlds.
