Ziyarah of Sayyida Fatima al-Zahra
Standing for her ziyarah — at the Rawda, in her house or at al-Baqi‘ — say:
يَا مُمْتَحَنَةُ
O you who were tested:
امْتَحَنَكِ اللّٰهُ الَّذِيْ خَلَقَكِ
God, who created you, tested you
قَبْلَ اَنْ يَخْلُقَكِ
before He created you,
فَوَجَدَكِ لِمَا امْتَحَنَكِ صَابِرَةً
and found you patient in what He tested you with.
وَزَعَمْنَا اَنَّا لَكِ اَوْلِيَاۤءُ وَمُصَدِّقُوْنَ
We claim that we are your devoted followers, that we believe
وَصَابِرُوْنَ لِكُلِّ مَاۤ اَتَانَا بِهٖ اَبُوْكِ
and are steadfast in all that your father brought us,
صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ
may God bless him and his family,
وَاَتٰى بِهٖ وَصِيُّهٗ
and all that his successor brought.
فَاِنَّا نَسْاَلُكِ اِنْ كُنَّا صَدَّقْنَاكِ
So we ask you, if we have been true in believing you,
اِلَّاۤ اَلْحَقْتِنَا بِتَصْدِيْقِنَا لَهُمَا
to join us, through our belief in them both,
لِنُبَشِّرَ اَنْفُسَنَا بِاَنَّا قَدْ طَهُرْنَا بِوِلَايَتِكِ
so that we may give ourselves the glad tidings that we have been purified by our devotion to you.
It is also recommended to say:
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا بِنْتَ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ
Peace be upon you, O daughter of the Messenger of God.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا بِنْتَ نَبِيِّ اللّٰهِ
Peace be upon you, O daughter of the Prophet of God.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا بِنْتَ حَبِيْبِ اللّٰهِ
Peace be upon you, O daughter of the Beloved of God.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا بِنْتَ خَلِيْلِ اللّٰهِ
Peace be upon you, O daughter of the Friend of God.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا بِنْتَ صَفِيِّ اللّٰهِ
Peace be upon you, O daughter of the Chosen of God.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا بِنْتَ اَمِيْنِ اللّٰهِ
Peace be upon you, O daughter of the Trusted of God.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا بِنْتَ خَيْرِ خَلْقِ اللّٰهِ
Peace be upon you, O daughter of the best of God’s creation.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا بِنْتَ اَفْضَلِ اَنْبِيَاۤءِ اللّٰهِ
Peace be upon you, O daughter of the most excellent of God’s prophets,
وَرُسُلِهٖ وَمَلَاۤئِكَتِهٖ
His messengers and His angels.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا بِنْتَ خَيْرِ الْبَرِيَّةِ
Peace be upon you, O daughter of the best of creatures.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا سَيِّدَةَ نِسَاۤءِ الْعَالَمِيْنَ
Peace be upon you, O mistress of the women of the worlds,
مِنَ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ وَالْاٰخِرِيْنَ
of the first and of the last.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا زَوْجَةَ وَلِيِّ اللّٰهِ
Peace be upon you, O wife of the friend of God
وَخَيْرِ الْخَلْقِ بَعْدَ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ
and best of creation after the Messenger of God.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا اُمَّ الْحَسَنِ وَالْحُسَيْنِ
Peace be upon you, O mother of al-Hasan and al-Husayn,
سَيِّدَيْ شَبَابِ اَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ
the two masters of the youth of Paradise.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ اَيَّتُهَا الصِّدِّيْقَةُ الشَّهِيْدَةُ
Peace be upon you, O truthful one, O martyr.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ اَيَّتُهَا الرَّضِيَّةُ الْمَرْضِيَّةُ
Peace be upon you, O content one, O one with whom God is content.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ اَيَّتُهَا الْفَاضِلَةُ الزَّكِيَّةُ
Peace be upon you, O virtuous one, O pure one.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ اَيَّتُهَا الْحَوْرَاۤءُ الْاِنْسِيَّةُ
Peace be upon you, O human houri.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ اَيَّتُهَا التَّقِيَّةُ النَّقِيَّةُ
Peace be upon you, O God-fearing one, O immaculate one.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ اَيَّتُهَا الْمُحَدَّثَةُ الْعَلِيْمَةُ
Peace be upon you, O one spoken to by angels, O knowing one.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ اَيَّتُهَا الْمَظْلُوْمَةُ الْمَغْصُوْبَةُ
Peace be upon you, O wronged one, O one whose right was seized.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ اَيَّتُهَا الْمُضْطَهَدَةُ الْمَقْهُوْرَةُ
Peace be upon you, O oppressed one, O one who was overpowered.
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ يَا فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتَ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ
Peace be upon you, O Fatima, daughter of the Messenger of God,
وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ
and the mercy of God and His blessings.
صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْكِ وَعَلٰى رُوْحِكِ وَبَدَنِكِ
May God bless you, your soul and your body.
اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكِ مَضَيْتِ عَلٰى بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّكِ
I bear witness that you passed on with clear proof from your Lord,
وَاَنَّ مَنْ سَرَّكِ فَقَدْ سَرَّ رَسُوْلَ اللّٰهِ
and that whoever made you glad made the Messenger of God glad,
صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ
may God bless him and his family;
وَمَنْ جَفَاكِ فَقَدْ جَفَا رَسُوْلَ اللّٰهِ
whoever was harsh to you was harsh to the Messenger of God,
صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ
may God bless him and his family;
وَمَنْ اٰذَاكِ فَقَدْ اٰذٰى رَسُوْلَ اللّٰهِ
whoever hurt you hurt the Messenger of God,
صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ
may God bless him and his family;
وَمَنْ وَصَلَكِ فَقَدْ وَصَلَ رَسُوْلَ اللّٰهِ
whoever kept ties with you kept ties with the Messenger of God,
صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ
may God bless him and his family;
وَمَنْ قَطَعَكِ فَقَدْ قَطَعَ رَسُوْلَ اللّٰهِ
and whoever cut you off cut off the Messenger of God,
صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ
may God bless him and his family;
لِاَنَّكِ بِضْعَةٌ مِّنْهُ
because you are a part of him
وَرُوْحُهُ الَّذِيْ بَيْنَ جَنْبَيْهِ
and his soul that is between his two sides.
اُشْهِدُ اللّٰهَ وَرُسُلَهٗ وَمَلَاۤئِكَتَهٗ
I call God, His messengers and His angels to witness
اَنِّيْ رَاضٍ عَمَّنْ رَضِيْتِ عَنْهُ
that I am pleased with whoever you are pleased with,
سَاخِطٌ عَلٰى مَنْ سَخِطْتِ عَلَيْهِ
angry with whoever you are angry with,
مُتَبَرِّئٌ مِمَّنْ تَبَرَّأْتِ مِنْهُ
disassociated from whoever you disassociated from,
مُوَالٍ لِمَنْ وَالَيْتِ
a friend to whoever you befriended,
مُعَادٍ لِمَنْ عَادَيْتِ
an enemy to whoever you opposed,
مُبْغِضٌ لِمَنْ اَبْغَضْتِ
averse to whoever you were averse to,
مُحِبٌّ لِمَنْ اَحْبَبْتِ
and a lover of whoever you loved.
وَكَفٰى بِاللّٰهِ شَهِيْدًا
And God suffices as a witness,
وَحَسِيْبًا وَجَازِيًا وَمُثِيْبًا
as a reckoner, as one who requites and rewards.
