al-Ziyara al-Jami‘a al-Kabira

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا اَهْلَ بَيْتِ النُّبُوَّةِ

Peace be upon you, O people of the house of prophethood,

وَمَوْضِعَ الرِّسَالَةِ

the place of the message,

وَمُخْتَلَفَ الْمَلَآئِكَةِ

the resort to which the angels come and go,

وَمَهْبِطَ الْوَحْىِ

the place where revelation descended,

وَمَعْدِنَ الرَّحْمَةِ

the mine of mercy,

وَخُزَّانَ الْعِلْمِ

the treasurers of knowledge,

وَمُنْتَهَى الْحِلْمِ

the utmost of forbearance,

وَاُصُوْلَ الْكَرَمِ

the roots of generosity,

وَقَادَةَ الْاُمَمِ

the leaders of the nations,

وَاَوْلِيَآءَ النِّعَمِ

the guardians of blessings,

وَعَنَاصِرَ الْاَبْرَارِ

the origins of the righteous,

وَدَعَآئِمَ الْاَخْيَارِ

the supports of the best,

وَسَاسَةَ الْعِبَادِ

the governors of the servants,

وَاَرْكَانَ الْبِلاَدِ

the pillars of the lands,

وَاَبْوَابَ الْاِيْمَانِ

the doors of faith,

وَاُمَنَآءَ الرَّحْمٰنِ

the trustees of the All-Merciful,

وَسُلاَلَةَ النَّبِيِّيْنَ

the descendants of the prophets,

وَصَفْوَةَ الْمُرْسَلِيْنَ

the elect of the messengers,

وَعِتْرَةَ خِيَرَةِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ

and the family of the chosen one of the Lord of the worlds,

وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ

and the mercy of God and His blessings.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلٰى اَئِمَّةِ الْهُدٰى

Peace be upon the Imams of guidance,

وَمَصَابِيْحِ الدُّجٰى

the lamps in the darkness,

وَاَعْلاَمِ التُّقٰى

the banners of piety,

وَذَوِى النُّهٰى

the possessors of understanding,

وَاُولِى الْحِجٰى

the people of intellect,

وَكَهْفِ الْوَرٰى

the refuge of mankind,

وَوَرَثَةِ الْاَنْبِيَآءِ

the heirs of the prophets,

وَالْمَثَلِ الْاَعْلٰى

the loftiest example,

وَالدَّعْوَةِ الْحُسْنٰى

the fairest call,

وَحُجَجِ اللهِ عَلٰى اَهْلِ الدُّنْيَا

and the proofs of God over the people of this world,

وَالْاٰخِرَةِ وَالْاُوْلٰى

of the hereafter and of the first life,

وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ

and the mercy of God and His blessings.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلٰى مَحَالِّ مَعْرِفَةِ اللهِ

Peace be upon the abodes of the knowledge of God,

وَمَسَاكِنِ بَرَكَةِ اللهِ

the dwellings of God’s blessing,

وَمَعَادِنِ حِكْمَةِ اللهِ

the mines of God’s wisdom,

وَحَفَظَةِ سِرِّ اللهِ

the guardians of God’s secret,

وَحَمَلَةِ كِتَابِ اللهِ

the bearers of God’s Book,

وَاَوْصِيَآءِ نَبِىِّ اللهِ

the successors of God’s Prophet

وَذُرِّيَّةِ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ

and the offspring of God’s Messenger,

صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ

God bless him and his family,

وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ

and the mercy of God and His blessings.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَى الدُّعَاةِ اِلَى اللهِ

Peace be upon those who call to God,

وَالْاَدِلَّآءِ عَلٰى مَرْضَاتِ اللهِ

who guide to what pleases God,

وَالْمُسْتَقِرِّيْنَ فِىْ اَمْرِ اللهِ

who stand firm in God’s command,

وَالتَّآمِّيْنَ فِىْ مَحَبَّةِ اللهِ

who are perfect in the love of God,

وَالْمُخْلِصِيْنَ فِىْ تَوْحِيْدِ اللهِ

who are sincere in affirming God’s oneness,

وَالْمُظْهِرِيْنَ لِاَمْرِ اللهِ وَنَهْيِهٖ

who make manifest God’s command and His prohibition,

وَعِبَادِهِ الْمُكْرَمِيْنَ

and upon His honoured servants

الَّذِيْنَ لاَ يَسْبِقُوْنَهُ بِالْقَوْلِ

who do not precede Him in speech

وَهُمْ بِاَمْرِهٖ يَعْمَلُوْنَ

and act by His command (21:27),

وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ

and the mercy of God and His blessings.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَى الْاَئِمَّةِ الدُّعَاةِ

Peace be upon the Imams who call,

وَالْقَادَةِ الْهُدَاةِ

the leaders who guide,

وَالسَّادَةِ الْوُلاَةِ

the masters who govern,

وَالذَّادَةِ الْحُمَاةِ

the defenders who protect,

وَاَهْلِ الذِّكْرِ

the people of remembrance,

وَاُوْلِى الْاَمْرِ

those vested with authority,

وَبَقِيَّةِ اللهِ وَخِيَرَتِهٖ

the remnant of God and His chosen ones,

وَحِزْبِهٖ وَعَيْبَةِ عِلْمِهٖ

His party and the treasury of His knowledge,

وَحُجَّتِهٖ وَصِرَاطِهٖ

His proof and His path,

وَنُوْرِهٖ وَبُرْهَانِهٖ

His light and His evidence,

وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ

and the mercy of God and His blessings.

اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لاَّ اِلٰهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ

I bear witness that there is no god but God,

وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيْكَ لَهٗ

alone, without partner,

كَمَا شَهِدَ اللهُ لِنَفْسِهٖ

as God has borne witness for Himself,

وَشَهِدَتْ لَهُ مَلَآئِكَتُهٗ

and His angels

وَاُولُو الْعِلْمِ مِنْ خَلْقِهٖ

and those of His creation who possess knowledge have borne witness for Him:

لاَ اِلٰهَ اِلاَّ هُوَ الْعَزِيْزُ الْحَكِيْمُ

there is no god but He, the Mighty, the Wise (cf. 3:18).

وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ الْمُنْتَجَبُ

And I bear witness that Muhammad is His select servant

وَرَسُوْلُهُ الْمُرْتَضٰى

and His approved Messenger;

اَرْسَلَهُ بِالْهُدٰى وَدِيْنِ الْحَقِّ

He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth

لِيُظْهِرَهُ عَلَى الدِّيْنِ كُلِّهٖ

to make it prevail over all religion,

وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْمُشْرِكُوْنَ

though the polytheists be averse (9:33).

وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّكُمُ الْاَئِمَّةُ الرَّاشِدُوْنَ

And I bear witness that you are the rightly guiding Imams,

الْمَهْدِيُّوْنَ الْمَعْصُوْمُوْنَ

guided, protected from sin,

الْمُكَرَّمُوْنَ الْمُقَرَّبُوْنَ

honoured, brought near,

الْمُتَّقُوْنَ الصَّادِقُوْنَ

God-fearing, truthful,

الْمُصْطَفُوْنَ الْمُطِيْعُوْنَ لِلّٰهِ

chosen, obedient to God,

الْقَوَّامُوْنَ بِاَمْرِهِ

upholding His command,

الْعَامِلُوْنَ بِاِرَادَتِهِ

acting according to His will,

الْفَائِزُوْنَ بِكَرَامَتِهٖ

triumphant through His honour.

اِصْطَفَاكُمْ بِعِلْمِهٖ

He chose you by His knowledge,

وَارْتَضَاكُمْ لِغَيْبِهٖ

approved you for His unseen,

وَاخْتَارَكُمْ لِسِرِّهٖ

selected you for His secret,

وَاجْتَبَاكُمْ بِقُدْرَتِهٖ

elected you by His power,

وَاَعَزَّكُمْ بِهُدَاهُ

strengthened you with His guidance,

وَخَصَّكُمْ بِبُرْهَانِهٖ

singled you out with His evidence,

وَانْتَجَبَكُمْ لِنُوْرِهٖ

picked you for His light,

وَاَيَّدَكُمْ بِرُوْحِهٖ

supported you with His Spirit,

وَرَضِيَكُمْ خُلَفَآءَ فِىْ اَرْضِهٖ

and was pleased with you as vicegerents on His earth,

وَحُجَجًا عَلٰى بَرِيَّتِهٖ

proofs over His creatures,

وَاَنْصَارًا لِّدِيْنِهٖ

helpers of His religion,

وَحَفَظَةً لِّسِرِّهٖ

guardians of His secret,

وَخَزَنَةً لِّعِلْمِهٖ

treasurers of His knowledge,

وَمُسْتَوْدَعًا لِّحِكْمَتِهٖ

a repository for His wisdom,

وَتَرَاجِمَةً لِّوَحْيِهٖ

interpreters of His revelation,

وَاَرْكَانًا لِّتَوْحِيْدِهٖ

pillars of His oneness,

وَشُهْدَآءَ عَلٰى خَلْقِهٖ

witnesses over His creation,

وَاَعْلاَمًا لِّعِبَادِهٖ

landmarks for His servants,

وَمَنَارًا فِىْ بِلاَدِهٖ

beacons in His lands

وَاَدِلَّآءَ عَلٰى صِرَاطِهٖ

and guides to His path.

عَصَمَكُمُ اللهُ مِنَ الزَّلَلِ

God protected you from slips,

وَاٰمَنَكُمْ مِنَ الْفِتَنِ

kept you safe from trials,

وَطَهَّرَكُمْ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ

purified you from defilement,

وَاَذْهَبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ

removed from you all uncleanness

وَطَهَّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيْرًا

and purified you with a thorough purification (33:33).

فَعَظَّمْتُمْ جَلَالَهٗ

So you magnified His majesty,

وَاَكْبَرْتُمْ شَاْنَهٗ

declared great His dignity,

وَمَجَّدْتُمْ كَرَمَهُ

glorified His generosity,

وَاَدَمْتُمْ ذِكْرَهُ

remembered Him constantly,

وَوَكَّدْتُمْ مِيْثَاقَهُ

affirmed His covenant,

وَاَحْكَمْتُمْ عَقْدَ طَاعَتِهٖ

made firm the bond of obedience to Him,

وَنَصَحْتُمْ لَهٗ فِى السِّرِّ وَالْعَلاَنِيَةِ

gave Him sincere counsel in secret and in public,

وَدَعَوْتُمْ اِلٰى سَبِيْلِهٖ

called to His way

بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَالْمَوْعِظَةِ الْحَسَنَةِ

with wisdom and good exhortation,

وَبَذَلْتُمْ اَنْفُسَكُمْ فِىْ مَرْضَاتِهٖ

gave yourselves up for His pleasure,

وَصَبَرْتُمْ عَلٰى مَا اَصَابَكُمْ فِىْ جَنْبِهٖ

bore patiently what befell you for His sake,

وَاَقَمْتُمُ الصَّلٰوةَ

established the prayer,

وَاٰتَيْتُمُ الزَّكٰوةَ

gave the alms,

وَاَمَرْتُمْ بِالْمَعْرُوْفِ

enjoined what is right,

وَنَهَيْتُمْ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ

forbade what is wrong,

وَجَاهَدْتُمْ فِى اللهِ حَقَّ جِهَادِهٖ

and strove for God as He deserves to be striven for,

حَتّٰى اَعْلَنْتُمْ دَعْوَتَهُ

until you made His call public,

وَبَيَّنْتُمْ فَرَآئِضَهٗ

made clear His obligations,

وَاَقَمْتُمْ حُدُوْدَهُ

upheld His limits,

وَنَشَرْتُمْ شَرَايِعَ اَحْكَامِهٖ

spread the laws of His rulings,

وَسَنَنْتُمْ سُنَّتَهُ

established His practice,

وَصِرْتُمْ فِىْ ذٰلِكَ مِنْهُ اِلَى الرِّضَا

and in all this attained His good pleasure,

وَسَلَّمْتُمْ لَهُ الْقَضَآءَ

surrendered to His decree,

وَصَدَّقْتُمْ مِنْ رُسُلِهٖ مَنْ مَضٰى

and confirmed those of His messengers who had gone before.

فَالرَّاغِبُ عَنْكُمْ مَارِقٌ

So whoever turns away from you has left the religion,

وَاللَّازِمُ لَكُمْ لاَحِقٌ

whoever keeps close to you will reach the goal,

وَالْمُقَصِّرُ فِىْ حَقِّكُمْ زَاهِقٌ

and whoever falls short in your right will perish.

وَالْحَقُّ مَعَكُمْ وَفِيْكُمْ

The truth is with you and in you,

وَمِنْكُمْ وَاِلَيْكُمْ

from you and to you;

وَاَنْتُمْ اَهْلُهٗ وَمَعْدِنُهٗ

you are its people and its mine.

وَمِيْرَاثُ النُّبُوَّةِ عِنْدَكُمْ

The inheritance of prophethood is with you,

وَاِيَابُ الْخَلْقِ اِلَيْكُمْ

the return of creation is to you,

وَحِسَابُهُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ

and their reckoning is upon you.

وَفَصْلُ الْخِطَابِ عِنْدَكُمْ

decisive speech is with you,

وَاٰيَاتُ اللهِ لَدَيْكُمْ

the signs of God are with you,

وَعَزَآئِمُهٗ فِيْكُمْ

His firm commands are in you,

وَنُوْرُهٗ وَبُرْهَانُهٗ عِنْدَكُمْ

His light and His evidence are with you,

وَاَمْرُهٗ اِلَيْكُمْ

and His affair is entrusted to you.

مَنْ وَالَاكُمْ فَقَدْ وَالَى اللهَ

Whoever befriends you has befriended God,

وَمَنْ عَادَاكُمْ فَقَدْ عَادَى اللهَ

whoever is hostile to you has been hostile to God,

وَمَنْ اَحَبَّكُمْ فَقَدْ اَحَبَّ اللهَ

whoever loves you has loved God,

وَمَنْ اَبْغَضَكُمْ فَقَدْ اَبْغَضَ اللهَ

whoever hates you has hated God,

وَمَنِ اعْتَصَمَ بِكُمْ فَقَدِ اعْتَصَمَ بِاللهِ

and whoever holds fast to you has held fast to God.

اَنْتُمُ الصِّرَاطُ الْاَقْوَمُ

You are the most upright path,

وَشُهَدَآءُ دَارِ الْفَنَآءِ

the witnesses of the abode of transience,

وَشُفَعَآءُ دَارِ الْبَقَآءِ

the intercessors of the abode of permanence,

وَالرَّحْمَةُ الْمَوْصُوْلَةُ

the mercy joined to creation,

وَالْاٰيَةُ الْمَخْزُوْنَةُ

the treasured sign,

وَالْاَمَانَةُ الْمَحْفُوْظَةُ

the guarded trust,

وَالْبَابُ الْمُبْتَلٰى بِهِ النَّاسُ

and the door by which people are tested.

مَنْ اَتَاكُمْ نَجَا

Whoever comes to you is saved,

وَمَنْ لَمْ يَاْتِكُمْ هَلَكَ

and whoever does not come to you perishes.

اِلَى اللهِ تَدْعُوْنَ

To God you call,

وَعَلَيْهِ تَدُلُّوْنَ

to Him you point the way,

وَبِهٖ تُؤْمِنُوْنَ

in Him you believe,

وَلَهُ تُسَلِّمُوْنَ

to Him you submit,

وَبِاَمْرِهٖ تَعْمَلُوْنَ

by His command you act,

وَاِلٰى سَبِيْلِهٖ تُرْشِدُوْنَ

to His way you guide,

وَبِقَوْلِهٖ تَحْكُمُوْنَ

and by His word you judge.

سَعَدَ مَنْ وَالَاكُمْ

Fortunate is whoever befriends you,

وَهَلَكَ مَنْ عَادَاكُمْ

ruined is whoever is hostile to you,

وَخَابَ مَنْ جَحَدَكُمْ

disappointed is whoever denies you,

وَضَلَّ مَنْ فَارَقَكُمْ

astray is whoever parts from you,

وَفَازَ مَنْ تَمَسَّكَ بِكُمْ

triumphant is whoever clings to you,

وَاَمِنَ مَنْ لَجَاَ اِلَيْكُمْ

safe is whoever takes refuge with you,

وَسَلِمَ مَنْ صَدَّقَكُمْ

secure is whoever believes you,

وَهُدِىَ مَنِ اعْتَصَمَ بِكُمْ

and guided is whoever holds fast to you.

مَنِ اتَّبَعَكُمْ فَالْجَنَّةُ مَاْوَاهُ

Whoever follows you, Paradise is his abode,

وَمَنْ خَالَفَكُمْ فَالنَّارُ مَثْوَاهُ

and whoever opposes you, the Fire is his dwelling.

وَمَنْ جَحَدَكُمْ كَافِرٌ

Whoever denies you is a disbeliever,

وَمَنْ حَارَبَكُمْ مُشْرِكٌ

whoever wars against you is a polytheist,

وَمَنْ رَدَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فِىْ اَسْفَلِ دَرَكٍ مِنَ الْجَحِيْمِ

and whoever rejects you is in the lowest depth of Hell.

اَشْهَدُ اَنَّ هٰذَا سَابِقٌ لَكُمْ فِيْمَا مَضٰى

I bear witness that this was ordained for you in what has passed

وَجَارٍ لَكُمْ فِيْمَا بَقِىَ

and will run on for you in what remains,

وَاَنَّ اَرْوَاحَكُمْ وَنُوْرَكُمْ

and that your spirits, your light

وَطِيْنَتَكُمْ وَاحِدَةٌ

and your clay are one,

طَابَتْ وَطَهُرَتْ

good and pure,

بَعْضُهَا مِنْ بَعْضٍ

one from another.

خَلَقَكُمُ اللهُ اَنْوَارًا

God created you as lights

فَجَعَلَكُمْ بِعَرْشِهٖ مُحْدِقِيْنَ

and set you encircling His Throne,

حَتّٰى مَنَّ عَلَيْنَا بِكُمْ

until He favoured us with you

فَجَعَلَكُمْ فِىْ بُيُوْتٍ

and placed you in houses

اَذِنَ اللهُ اَنْ تُرْفَعَ

which God has allowed to be raised

وَيُذْكَرَ فِيْهَا اسْمُهٗ

and in which His name is remembered (24:36);

وَجَعَلَ صَلَوَاتِنَا عَلَيْكُمْ

and He made our blessings upon you

وَمَا خَصَّنَا بِهٖ مِنْ وِلاَيَتِكُمْ

and the guardianship of yours with which He has singled us out

طِيْبًا لِخَلْقِنَا

a goodness for our creation,

وَطَهَارَةً لِاَنْفُسِنَا

a purity for our souls,

وَتَزْكِيَةً لَنَا

a purification for us

وَكَفَّارَةً لِذُنُوْبِنَا

and an expiation for our sins.

فَكُنَّا عِنْدَهُ مُسَلِّمِيْنَ بِفَضْلِكُمْ

So with Him we are among those who submit to your excellence

وَمَعْرُوْفِيْنَ بِتَصْدِيْقِنَا اِيَّاكُمْ

and are known for believing in you.

فَبَلَغَ اللهُ بِكُمْ اَشْرَفَ مَحَلِّ الْمُكَرَّمِيْنَ

God has brought you to the noblest station of the honoured,

وَاَعْلٰى مَنَازِلِ الْمُقَرَّبِيْنَ

the highest stations of those brought near

وَاَرْفَعَ دَرَجَاتِ الْمُرْسَلِيْنَ

and the loftiest ranks of the messengers,

حَيْثُ لاَ يَلْحَقُهٗ لاَحِقٌ

where none can catch up with you,

وَلاَ يَفُوْقُهٗ فَائِقٌ

none can surpass you,

وَلاَ يَسْبِقُهٗ سَابِقٌ

none can go ahead of you

وَلاَ يَطْمَعُ فِىْ اِدْرَاكِهٖ طَامِعٌ

and none can hope to attain it;

حَتّٰى لاَ يَبْقٰى مَلَكٌ مُقَرَّبٌ

so that there remains no angel brought near,

وَلاَ نَبِىٌّ مُرْسَلٌ

no prophet sent,

وَلاَ صِدِّيْقٌ وَلاَ شَهِيْدٌ

no truthful one and no martyr,

وَلاَ عَالِمٌ وَلاَ جَاهِلٌ

no learned one and no ignorant one,

وَلاَ دَنِىٌّ وَلاَ فَاضِلٌ

no lowly one and no eminent one,

وَلاَ مُؤْمِنٌ صَالِحٌ

no righteous believer,

وَلاَ فَاجِرٌ طَالِحٌ

no wicked sinner,

وَلاَ جَبَّارٌ عَنِيْدٌ

no stubborn tyrant,

وَلاَ شَيْطَانٌ مَرِيْدٌ

no rebellious devil,

وَلاَ خَلْقٌ فِيْمَا بَيْنَ ذٰلِكَ شَهِيْدٌ

nor any creature in between who is a witness,

اِلاَّ عَرَّفَهُمْ جَلاَلَةَ اَمْرِكُمْ

but that He has made known to them the majesty of your affair,

وَعِظَمَ خَطَرِكُمْ

the greatness of your worth,

وَكِبَرَ شَاْنِكُمْ

the grandeur of your standing,

وَتَمَامَ نُوْرِكُمْ

the perfection of your light,

وَصِدْقَ مَقَاعِدِكُمْ

the truth of your seats,

وَثَبَاتَ مَقَامِكُمْ

the firmness of your station,

وَشَرَفَ مَحَلِّكُمْ وَمَنْزِلَتِكُمْ عِنْدَهُ

the nobility of your place and your position with Him,

وَكَرَامَتَكُمْ عَلَيْهِ

your honour with Him,

وَخَاصَّتَكُمْ لَدَيْهِ

your special standing with Him

وَقُرْبَ مَنْزِلَتِكُمْ مِنْهُ

and the nearness of your station to Him.

بِاَبِىْ اَنْتُمْ وَاُمِّىْ

May my father, my mother,

وَاَهْلِىْ وَمَالِىْ وَاُسْرَتِىْ

my family, my wealth and my kin be your ransom.

اُشْهِدُ اللهَ وَاُشْهِدُكُمْ

I call God to witness and call you to witness

اَنِّىْ مُؤْمِنٌ بِكُمْ وَبِمَا اٰمَنْتُمْ بِهٖ

that I believe in you and in what you believe in,

كَافِرٌ بِعَدُوِّكُمْ وَبِمَا كَفَرْتُمْ بِهٖ

disbelieve in your enemy and in what you disbelieve in,

مُسْتَبْصِرٌ بِشَاْنِكُمْ

have insight into your standing

وَبِضَلاَلَةِ مَنْ خَالَفَكُمْ

and into the misguidance of whoever opposes you,

مُوَالٍ لَكُمْ وَلِاَوْلِيَآئِكُمْ

am a friend to you and to your friends,

مُبْغِضٌ لِاَعْدَآئِكُمْ وَمُعَادٍ لَهُمْ

hate your enemies and am hostile to them,

سِلْمٌ لِمَنْ سَالَمَكُمْ

at peace with whoever makes peace with you

وَحَرْبٌ لِمَنْ حَارَبَكُمْ

and at war with whoever wars against you,

مُحَقِّقٌ لِمَا حَقَّقْتُمْ

affirming what you affirmed,

مُبْطِلٌ لِمَا اَبْطَلْتُمْ

rejecting what you rejected,

مُطِيْعٌ لَكُمْ

obedient to you,

عَارِفٌ بِحَقِّكُمْ

knowing your right,

مُقِرٌّ بِفَضْلِكُمْ

acknowledging your excellence,

مُحْتَمِلٌ لِعِلْمِكُمْ

bearing your knowledge,

مُحْتَجِبٌ بِذِمَّتِكُمْ

sheltering under your protection,

مُعْتَرِفٌ بِكُمْ

confessing you,

مُؤْمِنٌ بِاِيَابِكُمْ

believing in your coming back,

مُصَدِّقٌ بِرَجْعَتِكُمْ

affirming your return,

مُنْتَظِرٌ لِاَمْرِكُمْ

awaiting your affair,

مُرْتَقِبٌ لِدَوْلَتِكُمْ

expecting your rule,

اٰخِذٌ بِقَوْلِكُمْ

holding to your word,

عَامِلٌ بِاَمْرِكُمْ

acting by your command,

مُسْتَجِيْرٌ بِكُمْ

seeking your protection,

زَائِرٌ لَكُمْ

visiting you,

لاَئِذٌ عَائِذٌ بِقُبُوْرِكُمْ

taking refuge and shelter at your graves,

مُسْتَشْفِعٌ اِلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِكُمْ

seeking your intercession with God, Mighty and Majestic,

وَمُتَقَرِّبٌ بِكُمْ اِلَيْهِ

seeking nearness to Him through you,

وَمُقَدِّمُكُمْ اَمَامَ طَلِبَتِىْ

and putting you before my requests,

وَحَوَآئِجِىْ وَاِرَادَتِىْ

my needs and my wishes

فِىْ كُلِّ اَحْوَالِىْ وَاُمُوْرِىْ

in all my states and affairs;

مُؤْمِنٌ بِسِرِّكُمْ وَعَلاَنِيَتِكُمْ

believing in your secret and your open,

وَشَاهِدِكُمْ وَغَآئِبِكُمْ

your present and your absent,

وَاَوَّلِكُمْ وَاٰخِرِكُمْ

your first and your last;

وَمُفَوِّضٌ فِىْ ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهٖ اِلَيْكُمْ

entrusting all of that to you

وَمُسَلِّمٌ فِيْهِ مَعَكُمْ

and submitting in it together with you.

وَقَلْبِىْ لَكُمْ مُسَلِّمٌ

My heart submits to you,

وَرَاْيِىْ لَكُمْ تَبَعٌ

my opinion follows yours,

وَنُصْرَتِىْ لَكُمْ مُعَدَّةٌ

and my help is ready for you,

حَتّٰى يُحْيِىَ اللهُ تَعَالٰى دِيْنَهُ بِكُمْ

until God the Exalted revives His religion through you,

وَيَرُدَّكُمْ فِىْ اَيَّامِهٖ

returns you in His days,

وَيُظْهِرَكُمْ لِعَدْلِهٖ

makes you manifest for His justice

وَيُمَكِّنَكُمْ فِىْ اَرْضِهٖ

and establishes you on His earth.

فَمَعَكُمْ مَعَكُمْ

So I am with you, with you,

لاَ مَعَ غَيْرِكُمْ

not with any other.

اٰمَنْتُ بِكُمْ

I believe in you,

وَتَوَلَّيْتُ اٰخِرَكُمْ بِمَا تَوَلَّيْتُ بِهٖ اَوَّلَكُمْ

and I take the last of you as guardians just as I took the first of you,

وَبَرِئْتُ اِلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

and I disassociate myself before God, Mighty and Majestic,

مِنْ اَعْدَآئِكُمْ

from your enemies,

وَمِنَ الْجِبْتِ وَالطَّاغُوْتِ

from al-Jibt and al-Taghut,

وَالشَّيَاطِيْنِ

from the devils

وَحِزْبِهِمُ الظَّالِمِيْنَ لَكُمْ

and from their party who wronged you,

الْجَاحِدِيْنَ لِحَقِّكُمْ

who deny your right,

وَالْمَارِقِيْنَ مِنْ وَلاَيَتِكُمْ

who have deserted your guardianship,

وَالْغَاصِبِيْنَ لِاِرْثِكُمْ

who usurped your inheritance,

الشَّاكِّيْنَ فِيْكُمْ

who doubt you

الْمُنْحَرِفِيْنَ عَنْكُمْ

and turn away from you;

وَمِنْ كُلِّ وَلِيْجَةٍ دُوْنَكُمْ

and from every intimate taken apart from you,

وَكُلِّ مُطَاعٍ سِوَاكُمْ

every one obeyed other than you,

وَمِنَ الْاَئِمَّةِ الَّذِيْنَ يَدْعُوْنَ اِلَى النَّارِ

and from the leaders who call to the Fire (cf. 28:41).

فَثَبَّتَنِىَ اللهُ اَبَدًا مَا حَيِيْتُ

So may God keep me firm forever, as long as I live,

عَلٰى مُوَالاَتِكُمْ

in my devotion to you,

وَمَحَبَّتِكُمْ وَدِيْنِكُمْ

my love for you and your religion;

وَوَفَّقَنِىْ لِطَاعَتِكُمْ

may He grant me success in obeying you,

وَرَزَقَنِىْ شَفَاعَتَكُمْ

grant me your intercession,

وَجَعَلَنِىْ مِنْ خِيَارِ مَوَالِيْكُمُ

and make me among the best of your followers

التَّابِعِيْنَ لِمَا دَعَوْتُمْ اِلَيْهِ

who follow what you have called to;

وَجَعَلَنِىْ مِمَّنْ يَقْتَصُّ اٰثَارَكُمْ

may He make me among those who trace your footsteps,

وَيَسْلُكُ سَبِيْلَكُمْ

walk your way,

وَيَهْتَدِىْ بِهُدَاكُمْ

are guided by your guidance,

وَيُحْشَرُ فِىْ زُمْرَتِكُمْ

are gathered in your company,

وَيَكِرُّ فِىْ رَجْعَتِكُمْ

come back in your return,

وَيُمَلَّكُ فِىْ دَوْلَتِكُمْ

are given authority in your rule,

وَيُشَرَّفُ فِىْ عَافِيَتِكُمْ

are honoured in your well-being,

وَيُمَكَّنُ فِىْ اَيَّامِكُمْ

are established in your days,

وَتَقِرُّ عَيْنُهٗ غَدًا بِرُؤْيَتِكُمْ

and whose eyes are delighted tomorrow by seeing you.

بِاَبِىْ اَنْتُمْ وَاُمِّىْ

May my father, my mother,

وَنَفْسِىْ وَاَهْلِىْ وَمَالِىْ

my soul, my family and my wealth be your ransom.

مَنْ اَرَادَ اللهَ بَدَاَ بِكُمْ

Whoever seeks God begins with you,

وَمَنْ وَحَّدَهُ قَبِلَ عَنْكُمْ

whoever affirms His oneness accepts it from you,

وَمَنْ قَصَدَهُ تَوَجَّهَ بِكُمْ

and whoever heads for Him turns to Him through you.

مَوَالِىَّ لاَ اُحْصِىْ ثَنَآئَكُمْ

My masters, I cannot count your praises,

وَلاَ اَبْلُغُ مِنَ الْمَدْحِ كُنْهَكُمْ

nor reach in praise the depth of your reality,

وَمِنَ الْوَصْفِ قَدْرَكُمْ

nor in description your worth.

وَاَنْتُمْ نُوْرُ الْاَخْيَارِ

You are the light of the best,

وَهُدَاةُ الْاَبْرَارِ

the guides of the righteous

وَحُجَجُ الْجَبَّارِ

and the proofs of the Almighty.

بِكُمْ فَتَحَ اللهُ

Through you God began,

وَبِكُمْ يَخْتِمُ

and through you He will seal;

وَبِكُمْ يُنَزِّلُ الْغَيْثَ

through you He sends down the rain,

وَبِكُمْ يُمْسِكُ السَّمَآءَ اَنْ تَقَعَ عَلَى الْاَرْضِ اِلاَّ بِاِذْنِهٖ

through you He holds back the sky from falling on the earth except by His leave (22:65),

وَبِكُمْ يُنَفِّسُ الْهَمَّ

through you He dispels grief

وَيَكْشِفُ الضُّرَّ

and removes harm.

وَعِنْدَكُمْ مَا نَزَلَتْ بِهٖ رُسُلُهٗ

With you is what His messengers brought down

وَهَبَطَتْ بِهٖ مَلَآئِكَتُهٗ

and His angels descended with,

وَاِلٰى جَدِّكُمْ بُعِثَ الرُّوْحُ الْاَمِيْنُ

and to your grandfather the Trustworthy Spirit was sent.

اٰتَاكُمُ اللهُ مَا لَمْ يُؤْتَ اَحَدًا مِّنَ الْعَالَمِيْنَ

God has given you what He has not given anyone in the worlds.

طَاْطَاَ كُلُّ شَرِيْفٍ لِشَرَفِكُمْ

Every noble one has bowed before your nobility,

وَبَخَعَ كُلُّ مُتَكَبِّرٍ لِطَاعَتِكُمْ

every proud one has submitted in obedience to you,

وَخَضَعَ كُلُّ جَبَّارٍ لِفَضْلِكُمْ

every tyrant has humbled himself before your excellence,

وَذَلَّ كُلُّ شَىْءٍ لَكُمْ

and everything has been made lowly before you.

وَاَشْرَقَتِ الْاَرْضُ بِنُوْرِكُمْ

The earth has shone with your light,

وَفَازَ الْفَائِزُوْنَ بِوِلاَيَتِكُمْ

and the triumphant have triumphed through your guardianship.

بِكُمْ يُسْلَكُ اِلَى الرِّضْوَانِ

Through you the way leads to God’s good pleasure,

وَعَلٰى مَنْ جَحَدَ وِلاَيَتِكُمْ غَضَبُ الرَّحْمٰنِ

and upon whoever denies your guardianship is the wrath of the All-Merciful.

بِاَبِىْ اَنْتُمْ وَاُمِّىْ

May my father, my mother,

وَنَفْسِىْ وَاَهْلِىْ وَمَالِىْ

my soul, my family and my wealth be your ransom.

ذِكْرُكُمْ فِى الذَّاكِرِيْنَ

Your remembrance is among those who remember,

وَاَسْمَآؤُكُمْ فِى الْاَسْمَآءِ

your names are among the names,

وَاَجْسَادُكُمْ فِى الْاَجْسَادِ

your bodies among the bodies,

وَاَرْوَاحُكُمْ فِى الْاَرْوَاحِ

your spirits among the spirits,

وَاَنْفُسُكُمْ فِى النُّفُوْسِ

your souls among the souls,

وَاٰثَارُكُمْ فِى الْاٰثَارِ

your traces among the traces,

وَقُبُوْرُكُمْ فِى الْقُبُوْرِ

and your graves among the graves;

فَمَا اَحْلٰى اَسْمَآئَكُمْ

yet how sweet are your names,

وَاَكْرَمَ اَنْفُسَكُمْ

how noble your souls,

وَاَعْظَمَ شَاْنَكُمْ

how great your standing,

وَاَجَلَّ خَطَرَكُمْ

how exalted your worth,

وَاَوْفٰى عَهْدَكُمْ

how faithful your covenant

وَاَصْدَقَ وَعْدَكُمْ

and how true your promise!

كَلاَمُكُمْ نُوْرٌ

Your speech is light,

وَاَمْرُكُمْ رُشْدٌ

your command is right guidance,

وَوَصِيَّتُكُمُ التَّقْوٰى

your counsel is piety,

وَفِعْلُكُمُ الْخَيْرُ

your deeds are goodness,

وَعَادَتُكُمُ الْاِحْسَانُ

your habit is kindness,

وَسَجِيَّتُكُمُ الْكَرَمُ

your nature is generosity,

وَشَاْنُكُمُ الْحَقُّ

your concern is truth,

وَالصِّدْقُ وَالرِّفْقُ

honesty and gentleness,

وَقَوْلُكُمْ حُكْمٌ وَحَتْمٌ

your word is judgement and decree,

وَرَاْيُكُمْ عِلْمٌ وَحِلْمٌ وَحَزْمٌ

and your opinion is knowledge, forbearance and resolve.

اِنْ ذُكِرَ الْخَيْرُ كُنْتُمْ اَوَّلَهٗ

If goodness is mentioned, you are its beginning,

وَاَصْلَهٗ وَفَرْعَهٗ

its root and its branch,

وَمَعْدِنَهٗ وَمَاْوَاهُ وَمُنْتَهَاهُ

its mine, its shelter and its utmost end.

بِاَبِىْ اَنْتُمْ وَاُمِّىْ وَنَفْسِىْ

May my father, my mother and my soul be your ransom;

كَيْفَ اَصِفُ حُسْنَ ثَنَآئِكُمْ

how can I describe the beauty of your praise

وَاُحْصِىْ جَمِيْلَ بَلَآئِكُمْ

or count the beauty of your favours?

وَبِكُمْ اَخْرَجَنَا اللهُ مِنَ الذُّلِّ

Through you God has brought us out of humiliation,

وَفَرَّجَ عَنَّا غَمَرَاتِ الْكُرُوْبِ

relieved us of the floods of distress,

وَاَنْقَذَنَا مِنْ شَفَا جُرُفِ الْهَلَكَاتِ

and rescued us from the brink of the precipice of destruction

وَمِنَ النَّارِ

and from the Fire.

بِاَبِىْ اَنْتُمْ وَاُمِّىْ وَنَفْسِىْ

May my father, my mother and my soul be your ransom.

بِمُوَالاَتِكُمْ عَلَّمَنَا اللهُ مَعَالِمَ دِيْنِنَا

Through devotion to you God has taught us the landmarks of our religion

وَاَصْلَحَ مَا كَانَ فَسَدَ مِنْ دُنْيَانَا

and set right what had been corrupted of our worldly life.

وَبِمُوَالاَتِكُمْ تَمَّتِ الْكَلِمَةُ

Through devotion to you the word has been completed,

وَعَظُمَتِ النِّعْمَةُ

the blessing has become great

وَائْتَلَفَتِ الْفُرْقَةُ

and division has turned to unity.

وَبِمُوَالاَتِكُمْ تُقْبَلُ الطَّاعَةُ الْمُفْتَرَضَةُ

Through devotion to you obligatory obedience is accepted.

وَلَكُمُ الْمَوَدَّةُ الْوَاجِبَةُ

Yours is the love made obligatory,

وَالدَّرَجَاتُ الرَّفِيْعَةُ

the lofty ranks,

وَالْمَقَامُ الْمَحْمُوْدُ

the praised station,

وَالْمَكَانُ الْمَعْلُوْمُ عِنْدَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

the known place with God, Mighty and Majestic,

وَالْجَاهُ الْعَظِيْمُ

the great standing,

وَالشَّاْنُ الْكَبِيْرُ

the grand dignity

وَالشَّفَاعَةُ الْمَقْبُوْلَةُ

and the accepted intercession.

رَبَّنَا اٰمَنَّا بِمَا اَنْزَلْتَ

“Our Lord, we believe in what You have sent down

وَاتَّبَعْنَا الرَّسُوْلَ

and we follow the Messenger,

فَاكْتُبْنَا مَعَ الشَّاهِدِيْنَ

so write us among the witnesses” (3:53).

رَبَّنَا لاَ تُزِغْ قُلُوْبَنَا بَعْدَ اِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا

“Our Lord, do not let our hearts swerve after You have guided us,

وَهَبْ لَنَا مِنْ لَّدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً

and grant us mercy from Your presence;

اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ

surely You are the Bestower” (3:8).

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّنَا

“Glory be to our Lord;

اِنْ كَانَ وَعْدُ رَبِّنَا لَمَفْعُوْلاً

the promise of our Lord is surely fulfilled” (17:108).

يَا وَلِىَّ اللهِ

O friend of God,

اِنَّ بَيْنِىْ وَبَيْنَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ذُنُوْبًا

between me and God, Mighty and Majestic, are sins

لاَ يَاْتِىْ عَلَيْهَا اِلاَّ رِضَاكُمْ

which nothing but your good pleasure can wipe away.

فَبِحَقِّ مَنِ ائْتَمَنَكُمْ عَلٰى سِرِّهٖ

So by the right of Him who entrusted you with His secret,

وَاسْتَرْعَاكُمْ اَمْرَ خَلْقِهٖ

placed the affair of His creation in your care

وَقَرَنَ طَاعَتَكُمْ بِطَاعَتِهٖ

and joined obedience to you with obedience to Him,

لَمَّا اسْتَوْهَبْتُمْ ذُنُوْبِىْ

ask for my sins to be forgiven

وَكُنْتُمْ شُفَعَآئِىْ

and be my intercessors,

فَاِنِّىْ لَكُمْ مُطِيْعٌ

for I am obedient to you.

مَنْ اَطَاعَكُمْ فَقَدْ اَطَاعَ اللهَ

Whoever obeys you has obeyed God,

وَمَنْ عَصَاكُمْ فَقَدْ عَصَى اللهَ

whoever disobeys you has disobeyed God,

وَمَنْ اَحَبَّكُمْ فَقَدْ اَحَبَّ اللهَ

whoever loves you has loved God,

وَمَنْ اَبْغَضَكُمْ فَقَدْ اَبْغَضَ اللهَ

and whoever hates you has hated God.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّىْ لَوْ وَجَدْتُ شُفَعَآءَ

O God, had I found intercessors

اَقْرَبَ اِلَيْكَ مِنْ مُّحَمَّدٍ وَّاَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ

nearer to You than Muhammad and his household,

الْاَخْيَارِ الْاَئِمَّةِ الْاَبْرَارِ

the best, the righteous Imams,

لَجَعَلْتُهُمْ شُفَعَآئِىْ

I would have made them my intercessors.

فَبِحَقِّهِمُ الَّذِىْ اَوْجَبْتَ لَهُمْ عَلَيْكَ

So by their right which You have made binding on Yourself for them,

اَسْئَلُكَ اَنْ تُدْخِلَنِىْ فِىْ جُمْلَةِ الْعَارِفِيْنَ بِهِمْ وَبِحَقِّهِمْ

I ask You to admit me among those who know them and their right,

وَفِىْ زُمْرَةِ الْمَرْحُوْمِيْنَ بِشَفَاعَتِهِمْ

and into the company of those granted mercy through their intercession;

اِنَّكَ اَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ

surely You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.

وَصَلَّى اللهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّاٰلِهِ الطَّاهِرِيْنَ

And God bless Muhammad and his pure family

وَسَلَّمَ تَسْلِيْمًا كَثِيْرًا

and grant them abundant peace;

وَحَسْبُنَا اللهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيْلُ

God is sufficient for us, and how excellent a Guardian He is (3:173).
