Hakima, daughter of Imam Muhammad al-Jawad عليه السلام, is the principal witness of the zahoor of the twelfth Imam عجل الله تعالى فرجه الشريف. The Twelver sources preserve her account of the night of 15 Sha‘ban 255 AH in the house of her nephew Imam al-Hasan al-Askari عليه السلام.
Witness of the zahoor of the twelfth Imam
Al-Saduq in Kamal al-Din and al-Tusi in al-Ghayba record Hakima’s account: Imam al-Askari عليه السلام asked her to stay the night of the middle of Sha‘ban because the promised son would come into the world, and she was with Narjis when he did and held him. Al-Saduq also records that Imam al-Hadi عليه السلام had entrusted Narjis to her to be taught the obligations and practices of Islam.
Learned woman of the household
Hakima was known for her learning among the daughters of Imam al-Jawad عليه السلام, and she transmitted narrations; al-Mufid cites her as the aunt of Imam al-Askari عليه السلام in chains of transmission. She is buried in Samarra, in the shrine of Imam al-Hadi عليه السلام and Imam al-Askari عليه السلام.
Differing reports
- Al-Mufid does not list her among the children of Imam al-Jawad عليه السلام, though he cites her elsewhere; the year of her death (274 AH in some works) is not established.
